Anyone else having problems with low frame rates, as well as constant drops in the actual frame rate to about 10 to 20 FPS at some point?

I have been having this issue since launch, and nothing i do can fix it. At first i thought it had to be something about my graphics card being defective, but after running stress tests, benchmarks, windows score, everything seems fine.

I have been reading the forums, and it seems there is an issue with this from several people all reporting the version 7xx from NVIDIA causing this kinds of problems, and after reporting this to ESO about a week ago, i still have no response from Behesda :(.

Anyone else having the same problems?

    **EDIT**

So i have been looking around and FINALLY got a solution that at least is working for me.

Apparently the "fake" full screen from TESO is making things very hard for the new graphics cards, because with the current NVIDIA drivers, they won't recognize gaming app is running, so the graphics card simply stays on idle, not giving out more than 20/30% of its capacity to the game.

So now the good news, the solution is to manually make the graphics card run at best performance for ESO. Sounds hard? not al all, just follow these steps and everything should be fine from now on:

    * Open NVIDIA Control Panel
    * Click on manage 3D settings on the Left Panel
    * Then in the "Select A Program To Customize" ... click ADD ...
    * Select the Eso.exe file from the list of programs
    * Under 2. select High Performance NVIDIA processor
    * Under 3. tweak as you think necessary"

Posted this as well on ESO forums, because there was a massive number of posts going on about everyone having issues, and no solution at all.

Hope for the ones with the same issue that this fixes it :D

Good gaming to all at an amazing 100 FPS most of the times (at least for me at the moment, still haven't tried Cyrodill though.)

    **EDIT2**

Ok, so even though this works for me, and has been working for some people, i have been looking further into this, and there is people out there that still have the same issue even after doing this process. I will keep looking into the subject further, but by what i have read, the only solution to this problem will be the promised driver updates from NVIDIA that will address the fact that the game is not true full screen (as well as some other issues ongoing with power maintenance in the series 700 graphics cards), that should come out until the end of the month.

    We shall see.

    **EDIT3**

Ok, a few more solutions out there that i was able to compile, and even if they don't solve the problem, at least they will improve your running ESO experience greatly. They are as follows:

    - In some cases, the launcher is causing the problem with the frames, and in this game you can just close the launcher without affecting anything in the game. Just press alt+tab and close it, and alt+tab again to go back to the game.

    - You can adjust how your cores "stop" and "function" again. This is called Core Parking, which windows does even in the highest power settings, making your cores idle sometimes even when the load is high. To change this settings, just follow the instructions in - http://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php.

    - You can also set the priority of the Eso process to High in your Task Manager from windows. Follow the instructions here, with a good way as well to make it permanent - http://www.askvg.com/how-to-permanently-set-process-priority-in-windows-task-manager/

Hope some of these solutions help you guys out.

    **EDIT4**

So, i did a fresh install of the drivers from NVIDIA using the provided solution by @vexx and there appears to be a slight improvement as well in the framerates, at least for me. So i will leave here the solution as well:

    - download the latest nVidia driver, save it to your folder of choice
    - download Driver Sweeper: http://www.filecluster.com/downloads/Driver-Sweeper.html
    - use Driver Sweeper to remove EVERYTHING nVidia related (works for ATI in teh same fashion)
    - install the newly downloaded drivers :)

I advise to do all of the steps above together for the best performance, at least for those like me that are having these kind of problems.

    Happy Gaming :D

I have the GTX 780 OC and I am experiencing the same issues , it is starting to piss me off. I upgraded from a Asus HD6970 to the EVGA GTX 780 OC for this game. I am not happy after dishing out 500$ to have this kind of fps performance. I know its a driver issue because with other games such as Battlefield 4 , this VC is amazing. Let me know if you find anything out and i will do the same.:mad::mad::mad::mad::(:(:(:(

    Are you using any addons?

I'm losing frames like crazy in the major cities but I'm not using nvidia card... it doesn't happen when I first open the game tho, I'm thinking there's a memory leak from an addon or the game itself.

All I'm using is FTC and a spam filter tho.

Yep same here, i dished out £500 for this graphics card and nothing. I have been reading on the forums that it's a common problem, have been trying to look online for a solution, but there seems to be nothing out there. I guess we have to wait for the beta drivers from NVIDIA to come out and try it.

Other games i have run amazing, no problems whatsoever, it is really an amazing card, it's just a shame that it's not working for this particular game :( (which is the only one i am playing at the moment, so that is a pain).

LOL, but not even Zenimax replies to this problem. All hell is coming down if they don't fix it :p. I should be playing at 100 FPS on this game, not 10 at times.

I've been trying to play DayZ with my GTX 670 FTW and it crashes all the time right after I got the 335.23 driver. No issues with ESO though.

With ESO the reported problems come with the 7xx series, all others seem to be working just fine. And i really think it is a NVIDIA problem here, but we will see with the next update from NVIDIA, and if they get something for ESO.

If not, this is going to be a very excruciating experience, especially in dungeons, where the framerate is important (even though it goes to around 10 frames, but it doesn't matter how many people or effects are around, sometimes it happens looking at the sky :|)

I've got an asus 780 ti and i haven't had any problems at all, and that's running mods too. I have the beta drivers installed, have you tried those?

Actually i haven't tried them yet, will have to do so today, was waiting on news from Zenimax, and a release version to come out, but maybe they are stable enough now to work.

yep, i haven't look for new drivers in about a week and a half, so i will have to have a look at that, maybe NVIDIA already fixed the damn bug that's affecting my play. I hope so, because if you go to the ESO forums and check, there is a lot of people affected by this issue.

I did all the stress tests, temperature, everything, and all seems fine. And no, no dust or anything like that, it's fairly new.

    **EDIT**

Ok, so i downloaded the new beta drivers from NVIDIA and most of the problems seem to have gone away. There is still some occasional memory dumps every now and then, but everything seems to be running smoothly now.

So for anyone experiencing this problem, just get the beta drivers from NVIDIA. They still haven't launched any official ones that include ESO, but it's better than nothing, and it fixes mostly everything.

Ok, so i did the driver thingy, and it still didn't work. It started just fine that same day, but when i restarted the computer and got back to it the next day, there you go, same thing all over again, and very low FPS :(.

Going to give this a test on my GTX 660m on my laptop. On one of the settings, I'm supposed to get about 40fps and a lot of the time the frames keep dropping to 10-15 which is leading to me dying. I play in full screen and will see if this changes.

BTW, check the new additions i did to the thread, there are a few more solutions circulating online, and these are fixing some to most of the problems (i added all i could find in this thread). My one is fixed already, and when the NVIDIA drivers come out, it should be more than perfect :).

well, 20 for my machine is waaaay low (i have a 6 month PC in which i spent a lot of monies), i have a Gigabyte GTX 780 OC for graphics card, so i should always be running at a high of 100 and a low of 50 in more complicated areas, and that was just no happening at all, i was getting around 50 to 60 max, and with drops every few seconds to around 10-20 FPS (and the main problem with this was the instability of it, because if you play at always 20 FPS you don't really notice, and when u are up to 60 and suddenly drop to 20 not only do you notice, but it also stutters).

I agree, i only have issues when Im in cities with a lot of players running around. I have a pretty high end rig. For me, stuttering and lag is a game killer and is and always has been (after lotro) on the top of my list of issues that will cause me to depart. Im extending them a very long leash on this one, months not weeks.
